Mission

I am always looking to develop my skills and collaborate with like-minded people.

What I do day to day

Every week is different and exciting, and I use the design process I outlined earlier to guide how I work:

Kick-off → Research & Discovery → Ideation & Exploration → Prototyping & Testing → Iteration → Delivery

We have quarterly planning sessions covering strategy, business and product, where I get the opportunity to contribute to what we should focus on — identifying customer problems and opportunities alongside the priorities coming from the business and product teams.

From there, we work in two-week sprints, picking up the next feature, customer problem or opportunity and working through it with the team.

There are usually three types of work happening within a sprint:

01 — A new feature or customer problem

We start by understanding the problem and what we're trying to achieve. I’ll look at research, data, the existing experience and competitors where useful.

From there, I explore flows, wireframes and prototypes, using Figma and Figma Make to get ideas moving quickly. I present the work and thinking behind it in our Epic Breakdown sessions, where the wider product design team can challenge the approach and offer feedback.

Where needed, I’ll test with users and use what we learn to iterate towards a solution with Product and Engineering.

02 — Improving something that's already live

Sometimes the opportunity comes from the product itself. I’ll look at data, customer feedback and research to understand what’s happening and where we can improve the experience.

That might mean exploring different approaches, running usability testing or getting feedback through an internal design review before iterating on the solution.

03 — Working with engineering

After work has been shared in the Epic Breakdown, we use Dev/Design Syncs to show developers work in progress and keep them involved as the design develops. This gives them an opportunity to raise technical considerations early, and gives me the chance to answer questions or suggest changes before things get too far along.

During delivery, I review what’s been built against the design, check the details and work with developers to resolve anything that needs changing.

Working with other designers

We collaborate closely as a design team, sharing work early and giving and receiving feedback throughout the process. We challenge each other, discuss different approaches and help raise the quality of the work.

We all get opportunities to lead, with the goal always being to make the work better.
